I drove my ’60 Impala convertible to the National Impala Association
Convention in Dayton, OH in late July. I met up with Don Bock in his ’68 Impala
Custom Coupe and his friends Michael and Sarah in their ’68 Impala convertible
on the PA Turnpike and stayed over in Wheeling, WV. I had a mechanical problem
but thanks to Don Bock and Joe DiNoia, I was back on the road. The convention
was celebrating the 50th anniversary of 1968 so there was lots of ‘68’s there.
Once we were in Dayton we met Tom Merring in his ’60 Impala, Scott Haring in
his ’64 SS and Scott’s parents John and Ellen Haring with their 2014 Impala.
The NIA now recognizes all full size Chevrolets right up to the newest models.
One of the highlights was the Air Force Museum which was only a short drive
away. That place is amazing and is it HUGE! We encountered an Edsel convention
in their parking lot, what fun!
The club event and meeting at Macungie (Das
Awkscht Fescht) saw only 3 club members so no
meeting was held. That’s a good show and swap
meet, the weather was dry and sunny, it was
promoted in the newsletter for months but not
many of our members turned out. This doesn’t
look good for the future of the club.
September will be a regular business meeting at
the Bordentown Community Center on Sunday the
9th at 5 PM. We will be discussing the future of
the club and laying out a calendar for next year, so
come on out. We welcome your ideas and
suggestions for events, cruise nights, shows,
museums, anything that may interest the
membership.
Mark your calendars for the Fall Foliage Cruise on
Saturday October 13 with a rain date the following
day. Details will be in the next newsletter but I
can tell you it will be in scenic Northwest NJ. If
you’ve never been up there you really need to
experience the breath - taking colors from the
mountain views. We will be stopping along the
way for meals, a good time will be had for the
whole family.
Our Christmas/Holiday Party is always a fun event so plan on being in Bordentown
on Sunday December 9th.
