September 2011

President’s Message

Summer is coming to a very rapid close, hope you were able to enjoy some car activities during this fun-filled season. Mike Berry, John Lucas and I traveled west to attend the NIA convention held in Kalamazoo, MI. It was a nice event including trips out to the Gilmore Auto and Kalamazoo Air Museums.

Both were great facilities and I highly recommend them if the opportunity presents itself to you. The trip was interesting, cruising across Route 80 through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and sweeping north to Kalamazoo. We had some minor mechanical issues along the way, but nothing to prevent us from completing the trip. Unfortunately the Drag Racing event was cancelled due to weather conditions, and we were plagued with rain showers the last few days of our stay.

We did meet with Jody Anderson the president of the NIA to discuss the 012 NIA convention plans, the results were promising. He will be traveling to New Jersey soon to finalize the Hotel selection for this event. We may even see him at our September meeting so I encourage you all to come out and meet him and bring any NIA questions you may have.

I was fortunate enough to attend the picnic at the Humphreys, what a great time we had! Despite the periods of rain, we enjoyed some great food, a polishing and painting session by their friend Egon, and a tour of the newly opened Taj-Garage South (Leigh’s new toy box). The food was delicious, and the company even better. A HUGE Thanks goes out to the Humphries for hosting this event, and to our own Steve Calandra for providing the tunes to keep things rolling. Leigh’s garage is awesome, and we all enjoyed a champagne toast and dedication ceremony while we were there. Best of luck Maureen and Leigh with this new addition!

We are still looking for a “What cha Workin’ on” Reporter, so please seriously consider volunteering for this position. It’s a lot of fun to do, plus it greatly enhances the club’s newsletter keeping folks up to date with club activities. That’s it for now, hope to see you all September 11th at the Bordentown meeting and bring your vintage car!

Keep ‘em Rollin’ Tom
