PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Well, the summer is over but there’s still quite a few cruising days left before some people prepare their cars for winter storage. I for one, still drive my cars occasionally during the winter months, provided that the roads are not salt covered.

First things first… The Fall Foliage & Steam Engine Ride in Jim Thorpe, PA is scheduled for Oct 17th & 18th. This is an event whereas you don’t have to attend everything that’s scheduled. The same thing situation occurred with the Drive-In cruise whereas some members went to the museum and others opted to hang out by the pool until dinner time. Whatever your plans are for the event, please give Lou Dipetro a call. The Radiator Shop tour has been cancelled. The owner requested that the club attend a tour on a week night. I mentioned that we have members all over the state and we couldn’t guarantee a specific amount of attendees. He did agree to call me when another club has scheduled a tour at the Route 1, New Brunswick facility, which is approximately 30 minutes from Hightstown. When I hear from him, I’ll send an email to the membership with the date and time. In the current economy, the shop is willing to spend a couple of hours showing us their processes in hopes of generating additional business and also reciprocating with a club discount. They also have a location on Route 130 in Robbinsville.

The main topic at the September meeting was for the Jersey Late Greats to become affiliated with the National Impala Association. After much discussion, two motions were put before the membership. One, is to become affiliated with the NIA and not renewing our membership with the Eklers Corporation and two, expanding our years to include 1958-1972. Keep in mind, that the NIA recognizes full size Chevrolets only. But we, the Jersey Late Greats will continue to recognize all Chevrolet models. These 2 motions will be further discussed if needed during the next two meetings with the final vote taking place at the November meeting. If you have questions, concerns, opinions, please be sure to attend the next meetings. Also, in order to vote, you must have attended 3 meetings in the last year.

We started planning our 2010 calendar of events. If you think of anything that may be of interest, please call me. If you think of an event, it doesn’t mean that you have to be the coordinator of it.

During the October meeting, Mike Berry will hold nominations for 2010 Officer positions.
