The last club meeting for the winter season took place on
April 12. I deferred any conversation about the possible expansion of the club
to include Chevrolets up to 1972 until the next club meeting in September. If
you want to have a voice, whether it be pro or con, be sure to attend that meeting.
You could make a difference in the outcome.
There are quite a few club activities that will be taking
place over the course of the summer. So check the club calendar, dust off your
ride and c’mon out, starting with the annual club picnic that is taking place
on May 9th at the Mercer County Park. As stated in last months newsletter, each
member usually contributes something towards the picnic, either food, salad,
deserts, etc, but this is not mandatory. If you’re planning on attending, please
call Maureen Humphreys or myself in order to better plan the barbequed food
purchase. Also, so we don’t have an excess of any particular item. People get
there early and stay late as this is always a terrific event. Directions are
included in this newsletter.
At the last meeting, our Club Treasurer, Verne Frantz passed
around photos of his latest acquisition, a 1960 Thompson boat powered by a 50
horsepower Evinrude engine. From what I understand, it’s an unrestored original
boat with perfectly varnished mahogany. It appears to be an extremely low hours
boat and has been stored inside from new. I can picture it now… fishing rod
and cocktail in hand on the lake. Good Luck Verne... Enjoy !!!
A few club members got together at Tom Merring’s garage ma-hall
to help Mike Berry swap out a tired and worn out 283 in his ’60 convertible
for a freshly rebuilt 283 and cast iron powerglide transmission. There’s more
on this later on.

Just a reminder… If you’re planning on attending the America
on Wheels Auto Museum and Drive-In cruise on June 6-7, you have to call the
hotel to make your reservation. John Lucas has reserved a block of rooms for
the Jersey Late Greats. You don’t have to attend both activities that day in
order to just go to dinner and the movie.
We will be reconvening our monthly meetings on Sunday, September
13 at the Bordentown Community Center at 5pm.
