PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
This is the first published newsletter of the season that
a meeting wasn’t held. However, we did have our annual club picnic at Mercer
County Park East on May 9th.
The weather forecast called for possible showers but not a
drop came down on our picnic. There were attendees from the NJACE and the Jersey
Cruisin Classics clubs. Dawn Dennery and Maureen Humphreys did an outstanding
job as always, of organizing the festivities. Al Bernotas, the club chef manned
the grill, but I noticed later on that Al had forgotten his ‘Official Club Grilling
Hat’ that he had received at the club banquet that was made and presented by
John Dennery.
Verne Frantz developed and presided over the two ‘car games’,
one of which the driver had to drive (idle) a short straight distance, judge
his distance and stop his car closest to the finish line. The driver performed
this feat with a paper bag over his head and had to rely strictly on his blind
judgment of distance with no help from the audience. The next game, a timed
event, involved a series of turns by which the driver was had to perform via
instructions from his co-pilot that was walking along side of the car. As we
saw, some of us were confused by our turn ‘right or left’ instructions while
in reverse. When the scores were tallied, by distance and time, Larry Jehle
and his son Michael, of the Jersey Cruisin Classics, driving a red ’67 Mustang,
came in first place in the “Whoa & Go” and second place in the “Turn Your
Partner” car games. Way to go Larry! The first, second and third place prizes
of each game were sponsored by Advance Auto Parts in East Windsor. It seems
like Larry drove away with quite a good amount of car care products.
In past newsletters I’ve mentioned that it’s time to take
your ride out of hibernation and attend to the little things in order to enjoy
a season of trouble-free motoring. I for one, am delinquent on attending to
those little things. What about you?
The America on Wheels Auto Museum and Drive Inn Cruise in
Allentown, PA is happening in a couple of weeks, on June 6th, followed by the
East Penn Chevy Show in Schnecksville, PA on the 7th, which is just a few miles
down the road from the Roadway Inn. Remember, you can partake in any or all
parts of the week-end events but if you plan on staying at the Roadway Inn,
please call and confirm your reservations today.
Also, John and Dawn Dennery are hosting their annual picnic
on July 11th. It’s always quite the car show at the Dennery’s, not to mention
the ‘Show & Tell’ of some of the trinkets that John has picked up over the
last year. If you plan on attending, please provide Dawn the courtesy of an
RSVP, just so she knows how much of that outstanding food to make. Bring your
appetites but please, NO doggy-bags.
