President’s Message

I just finished putting together the photo page from the picnic and I’m wondering “What was I thinking?”

I certainly didn’t do a very good job documenting the event. I believe the morning rain and Mother’s Day weekend kept the attendance down a bit but overall it was a fine time. Big Al Bernotas kept the burgers and hot dogs coming. There was a good selection of salads and deserts and plenty of soft drinks for everybody. We had a 1 hour meeting where it was decided to give a $500.00 donation to the America on Wheels Museum. The real excitement came when Jim Krous arrived in his 1963 Biscayne 2 door. This is the Mutt that Jim put together way back in the 90’s. Powered by a 340 hp 409, it has A/C, P/S, P/B (metallic), a quick ratio steering box and an AM/FM cassette player! Jim had sold this car to a guy who drove it for a couple years and then parked it under a pine tree in his backyard for 20 years. Well it’s back on the road again and running fine!

A big “Thank You” goes out to Jim and Karen Thackeray for putting this event together.

Tom Merring has put together a fun event for June. We will meet at Allaire State Park on Saturday, June 9 at 10:30 AM. We’ll have a brief meeting and then go explore the park. There is a Flea Market going on in the park that day so that should be interesting. Just so no one is confused, this is a general merchandise event, not an auto parts swap meet. There are all sorts of neat stuff to do there, it’s a restored village with a black smith shop, a narrow gauge railroad and all sorts of crafty stuff. When we’re done there we’ll go to the Allenwood General Store for a meal. This will be fun for the whole family so come on out and bring a friend. Let’s get our cars out and have a good time.

Take it easy,

Mike
