May was a cold and rainy month and it put a damper on many shows
and cruises. The show at Burlington Chevrolet was cancelled due to the weather,
but was held this past weekend.
It is now June, and the cruise and show circuit are in full swing. The club
has had a busy schedule this year; a tech session on A/C presented by Tom Merring,
a session on generators presented by Joe DiNoia, and a cruise/show at Englishtown
The highlight of the year has to be the tech session on timing an engine after
a rebuild, presented by Verne Frantz and Joe DiNoia. The session was held at
Joe’s shop. It is a first class restoration garage that has all the bells and
whistles. Make it a point to stop by and visit with Joe. It is very worthwhile.
There aren’t any club meetings in June, July, and August, but the club events
continue. GM at Carlisle will be June 17th – 19th. Mike Berry, NIA owner will
have a tent set-up, so we can use it as a home base. Mike will also be running
the NIA NIA convention in Springfield, IL on July 18th – 22nd . Plan to attend
both or at least one of these events.
The board is already planning for the Fall. On May 15th at Joe’s, we sent around
a “Seminar Survey” and received some great suggestions for tech sessions: 1.
3. Two piece drive shaft maintenance center support bearing replacement, upgrades,
4. John Denny wants a session on “How to tell the difference between two specific
parts of this anatomy. I don’t think we will have a session on this. Perhaps
a book might help.
5. Mike Berry would like to have a session on how to repack his muffler bearings.
The joke is on Mike as his car doesn’t have muffler bearings.
Let Mike Berry, Events Coordinator, or me, know if you have an idea for a tech
session or a remote meeting. Also, let us know about any shows or events that
youthink other members might like to attend.
The perfect place to try and recruit new members is at a cruise or show. Verne
is the Membership Chairperson, so contact him if you need any new membership
applications. The membership contest is still going on and is shown below. Contact
Verne for more information. We would like to get 10-20 new members by the end
of the year. We need your help. Remember, it’s your club. Take part in its success.
Enjoy the Summer and stay safe. We will see you at one of the shows, events
and/or the Jersey Late Greats September member meeting.
