President’s Message

Yahoo!, Summer is here!

It’s time to warm up the grill while you break out the Hot Dogs and Burgers, and perhaps take a dip in the Pool. Hope you’ve all been out cruising in your Chevy, as it doesn’t get much better than this. It’s been quite a month so far, what with the Drive-in cruise, the Burlington Chevy show, the Tavern-by-the-Lake Cruise, and the ever popular Brussel 3rd Annual International Horseshoe competition. If you were fortunate enough to attend one of these stellar events, you’ll understand how much fun they were. Please see the photo coverage of these great events elsewhere in this edition.

I will commence with the Drive-In Cruise, coordinated by our very own Newsletter Editor John Lucas. What a great time we had, the whole Thackeray Clan was there, the whole Lucas Family, and I. The movies showing were The X-Men and Pirates of the Caribbean. It was a real fun night, a virtual trip down memory lane at the Drive-In. A BIG thanks to John for managing this event.

Next up was the Burlington Chevy Show, coordinated by Big Al Bernotas. The weather cooperated and folks enjoyed a nice home style outdoor grill meal. I wasn’t available to attend this one, but I heard that all the folks enjoyed themselves and the old Chevys were well received. Thanks again Al, for setting up this Club fund raiser.

On the following day, we enjoyed the Tavern-by-the-Lake event in Hightstown set up by Jim and Claudia Brussel. Once again, the weather was threatening showers but held out for the day. There was a very nice live 50’s Band belting out the tunes, and the venue next to the Lake was wonderful. Alan George from the East Penn Club showed up with his open headered 1962 Impala Blue steak car, what a treat! We even had Hank Montenegro, one of our new members show up in his awesome 1965 Impala SS 396. Club members enjoyed a complimentary meal and beverage, and the Tavern was very accommodating. A good time was had by all members in attendance, thanks to Claudia and Jim.

The most recent event was once again hosted by the Brussel’s. The Third Annual Jersey Horseshoe Competition. This event occurred on June 18th, which was a beautiful day supporting all the activities. Great food, drink and fun were the order of the day, and we even squeezed in some Horseshoes too! There was a great turn out of club members and their cars. To Jim’s credit, yet another new member was in attendance in his stellar 1970 red Impala Convertible, Dan Diuro. We were also surprised by a visit from long distance winner and former Club President Kent Weinstein. What a great day we all enjoyed-special thanks go out to Claudia and Jim for hosting such a great mixer event

Looking forward, please check the Club calendar in the Newsletter-you won’t want to miss the picnic at the Dennery’s place. It always proves to be a most excellent time, and don’t forget the live band! As you can see, our club offers many fun filled events-why not make plans to come out and join us?

The NIA Kalamazoo convention is towards the end of July, a few of us plan on caravanning out on the 23rd. If you have interest in doing this, please contact either Mike Berry or myself to make arrangements. I have been in contact with Jody Anderson regarding the 012 Jersey NIA Convention, and I am currently awaiting his feedback on the locations we provided. That’s all for now, please take some time to see the photo spread and see for yourself how much fun these events really are.
