Presidents Message
Happy New Year to All, Welcome to 2012! Seems like not too
long ago, as a young teenager, I watched the TV anxiously as the Times Square
ball was dropped ushering in the 1970s. Sometimes you have to stop and wonder
where all the time has gone. Consider this; in 1970 our club founder Verne
Frantz already was celebrating two years of ownership of his 1962 Impala SS
convertible which he still owns today! Pretty amazing when you think about
it, isn’t it. Yet another amazing fact is that this year our own club chapter
will be celebrating 30 years of commitment to the preservation of our beloved
Chevys. As a club, we have moved to accept change, opening our ranks to the
newer model Chevrolets. All of which, have their respectful place in automotive
history and which attract attention through their design, performance and
innovation. The hobby has changed an incredible amount in that time span,
and I am proud to say that our club has endured.
December’s meeting was very well attended and a whole lot of fun, folks brought
out their favorite covered dishes to share with the membership and we all
enjoyed a delicious feast! It was a nice time to share fellowship and enjoy
Holiday cheer. We even had a new member join, Larry Garland who owns a 1962
Impala Drag car, welcome Larry! The Humphries were in attendance, and Maureen
was sharing the AD book she supported for The Salem County Pageant event.
She did quite the job soliciting support for that event; I was amazed as she
shared stories of what it took to make it all come together. Leigh and Maureen
have volunteered to assist the club in soliciting door prices and other items
for this year’s convention. From what I could tell regarding their efforts
for the Pageant, I feel confident we will be moving in the right direction
concerning these items for the convention. I would like to personally thank
all those who came out last meeting; it was a very nice event.
The next meeting will be consisting of a regular business meeting followed
by an Automobilia display. Members are encouraged to bring out Publications,
display items, etc pertaining to the Car hobby over the years. In addition,
as discussed at the December meeting, we are seeking suggestions for Club
activities and events for the latter part of 2012. Fall foliage cruise, pumpkin
picking, road rallys are just a few of the possibilities. We also held our
club elections in December, and our illustrious Board will remain intact for
another year. As Club President, I would like to thank the Board for doing
an excellent job last year, and I look forward to working with this enthusiastic
group in 012. Please come out to the next meeting and join in the fun, we
look forward to seeing you there!
One last item, The Dennery’s have once again been kind enough to arrange for
and run our Annual Club Banquet, which is slated to be held in February. Please
see details elsewhere in this Newsletter and sign up soon, we need to get
a good headcount. This always proves to be a stellar event, so don’t miss
it! Thant’s all for now, hope your Holidays were filled with pleasant memories.
Keep ‘em Rollin”
Tom
