President’s Message

I hope everyone had a very nice holiday. It seemed appropriate to start the winter season with a snowstorm. Central Jersey got a foot of the white stuff while my family on Long Island received 2 feet. Did anyone receive that special something for their Chevy or did you just click ‘buy it now’ on ebay? And you gave your car the gift.

At last month’s meeting at the Bordentown Community Center, all that attended brought food for the Holiday Buffet. Thanks go to Dawn Dennery for coordinating the event.

Afterwards, the floor was given to Mike Berry, our Elections Chairman. No, there wasn’t a heated debate between both Vice Presidential candidates, incumbent Jim Thackeray and challenger Tom Merring, however both said a few words.

Mike then passed around the ballots and… Drum roll please… Mike then announced, for the second year in a row between the same candidates, the vote was tied. What are the chances of that happening 2 years in a row? But however, the outcome of the coin toss was different, with Tom Merring being triumphant. The other board members, Jim, Dawn, Verne, Al and I, have retained our positions.

Hold onto the date February 20 for the Holiday Banquet at Venturas Restaurant in South Jersey. Dawn Dennery will send the invitations in early January. If you’ve seen or heard of a potentially embarrassing incident involving a fellow member, please call John Dennery, GAG gift extradinaire. You don’t have to come up, design or build the gag gift, leave that part to John. But he does need ideas from YOU. His imagination and ingenuity are second to none. Some of the “gifts” Claudia and I have received over the years are still on display in my garage.

Most of us aren’t driving our cars in this weather. So what does that leave us to do? Give your car/s the attention they most likely need. John Dennery has decided 2010 will be the year his ’57 will be on the road. He’s been replacing brake and fuel lines, all new brakes and a complete aluminized exhaust system. I’ll be working on the ’64 Nova to repair a few issues that were identified during the trip to Daytona for the Turkey Rod Run. So now’s the time!
