August 2009
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Where has the summer gone? It’s already half over. Just recently,
the weather started picking up from being what seemed like the monsoon season.
It just hasn’t been conducive to driving our rides. It’s one thing if you get
caught in the rain but you sure don’t like to start out in the rain. That’s
exactly what I was thinking while I was going over the ’64 Impala as Claudia
and I were preparing for a weeks vacation at the Rhode Island beach house. The
forecasted report wasn’t all that great but low and behold, we had only one
day of sporadic rain.
I hope everyone is enjoying their vacations and the time spent
with family and friends. Speaking of our Jersey Late Great family and friends,
don’t forget that John & Dawn Dennery’s BBQ has been rescheduled to Saturday,
August 8th in lieu of Jim & Claudia’s BBQ. Please remember to RSVP as soon
as possible.
There are a few events that are scheduled over the next month
or two that I’d like to touch on. First, is the National Impala Association
Convention being held in Charlotte, N.C. There’s quite a few of our members
that will be attending. One or two cars will be trailered but most of them are
being driven. To me, that’s one of the best parts… the adventure of driving
there as I never tire of driving my cars. This could be a prelude of good things
to come for the Jersey Late Greats. Hope to see you there. Then, there’s the
Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise that takes place in Detroit, Michigan. Even though
this is not an official club event, it’s more like a bunch of guys going to
a 16 mile long car show. This is one event that you need to attend at least
once, although quite a few of us have gone numerous times. Here’s the plan.
Thursday, August 13 is a travel day, meeting at Jim Krous’ house at 5:30am.
After checking into the Knights Inn Motel in Farmington Hills ($52.00per night),
we’re off to Woodward Avenue. This is a place where anything with wheels is
allowed on the road. You’re sure to see some very unusual rides. Sunday is a
travel day home. If you’re interested, please call me for additional information.
Next, Al Bernotas has finalized the date for our Chevrolet
display at Burlington Chevrolet for August 22nd, 11am-2pm, with a rain date
of August 29th. Please call Al if you plan on attending.
Last but not least, Lou DiPietro is organizing the Fall Foliage
Run and Steam Engine Ride in Jim Thorpe, PA. on October 17-18. In this newsletter,
is the motel, prices and telephone number for you to place your reservation,
schedules and restaurant information. Please check the Jim Thorpe web-site,
jimthorpepa.com and click on the train icon for activities.
Also in this newsletter is a photo page of Vince Ucci’s 1960
Impala Convertible getting a fresh 348 cuin 280 HP Tri-Power and 4-speed. This
was a fun night at Jim Krous’s shop, check out the photo page in this newsletter.
